Our Growers Network

Our network of dedicated and diverse organic growers is the heart of Southern Light Herbs. Over the past 30 years demand for Southern Lights Herbs premium teas has been intrinsically matched by the growth in numbers, yields and skills of our highly committed and passionate growers group. Together with our Maldon farm, most crops are produced throughout Victoria however our 20 certified organic growers extend from northern Queensland to Southern Tasmania. Each climate provides the right conditions for a different selection of herbs to thrive, for example Lemon Grass in the North, Chamomile in the South and Peppermint here in Central Victoria.

With a product list of over 120 herbal teas, medicinal and culinary herbs to chose from, most growers select 8–10 herbs which suit their operation best – these may be flower, leaf, berry or root crops. Although no two farms are exactly the same in their mix of crops, all growers work with Southern Light Herbs to fulfill the followings year’s requirements through our letters of intent system, where volumes and prices are agreed upon at the beginning of the season, ensuring our growers can plan their finances in advance.

Every year we welcome new growers into our network. Most growers have gained their first experience and insight of herb production through one of our workshops or field days. Being able to see demonstrations of the farms processes and activities enables you to decide if this endeavour and lifestyle is what you have being looking for. Once a decision to proceed is made, we support new growers from the time they turn their first sod, through planning, farm development, organic certification and to ongoing success in their herb enterprise.
